message from Bill MacDonald, Director of Public Safety
The Red River is forecasted to reach 39.5 - 41 ft on Sunday or Monday and remain at that level for a few days. City representatives believe this is a manageable level and do not anticipate any problems or disruption of services (water, electricity, etc...).
Concordia Public Safety Officers will be checking lower levels of buildings this weekend and representatives from Facilities Management will be on stand-by in the event water or seepage is detected. Since security staffing is limited, we encourage everyone to take responsibility for their areas and call Public Safety at x3123 if problems are detected.

message from Chelle Lyons Hanson, Student Leadership and Service
Please plan to spend a few hours sandbagging this week. The City of Moorhead has completed all the necessary infrastructure preparations to mitigate the flood but sandbag dikes to protect personal properties are yet to be built. It takes a whole community to make that happen, and the sandbag dikes are really the first line of defense in keeping the entire city dry.
The City of Moorhead is calling for volunteers to help lay sandbags beginning on Tuesday, April 5. Please check in at Nemzek Hall on the MSUM campus.
- Concordia shuttles will run between campus and Nemzek Hall 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Vans will pick up at Park Region, Knutson Campus Center and Erickson/Hallett Halls. Check www.cord.edu/floodvolunteer for the most updated information about shuttles and the need for volunteers.
- The volunteer center at Nemzek will be open from 8 a.m to 8 p.m. each day.
Please check in at Nemzek in order to respect the need for the City to coordinate where volunteers are needed, since the need for volunteers will be coordinated with the delivery of sandbags. In addition, using the shuttle system will minimize the traffic congestion in the neighborhoods and aid the city in getting the appropriate resources to the areas they are needed.

Concordia does not anticipate any direct impact from a flood; the City of Moorhead has made significant infrastructure upgrades that will help ensure that services are sustained on campus throughout the duration of any flood event. As such, we fully anticipate that all classes and events will proceed as scheduled.
With infrastructure enhancements in place and more time to prepare for this year's flood event, the volunteer effort required in Moorhead is expected to be quite manageable. Concordia officials will join other members of the Moorhead education community for a meeting with Moorhead City Manager Mike Redlinger on Tuesday, Feb. 22, to discuss ongoing flood preparations, as well as the anticipated scope of volunteer needs.
The City of Fargo has begun its volunteer sandbagging operation. More information about volunteer opportunities will be available after break. To learn about current needs, please call FirstLink at (701) 476-4000.
Official flood information from The City of Moorhead can be found on its Website at http://www.ci.moorhead.mn.us/flood/. Official college-related flood information is available on the Concordia Web site and in C-Port. We will continue to update information as events warrant.
Student safety is our top priority. In the event of any campus emergency, alerts will be sent via text message using the e2Campus system. If you have not registered for e2Campus, you are strongly encouraged to do so at http://www.e2campus.com/my/cord/.
