Symposium Plenary Speakers

The 2010 Faith, Reason and World Affair Symposium will bring to campus a number of influential thinkers and writers from a variety of academic disciplines:

Michael Saler (history, University of California-Davis): “From 'Just So' Stories to 'As If' Worlds: Modern Enchantment and Mass Culture"

Adam Frank (astronomy, University of Rochester): “The Constant Fire: Beyond the Science vs Religion Debate”

Ronald Thiemann (Harvard Divinity School): “Sacramental Realism: Relocating the Sacred"

Mary Evelyn Tucker (Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies): “Worldly Wonder: Religions Enter their Ecological Phase”

Judith Valente (PBS correspondent and award-winning poet), moderator of final panel discussion

The Symposium will also highlight a series of one-hour concurrent sessions to provide participants an opportunity to further explore various dimensions of the Symposium theme.
